32 unread messages. Daniel put down the phone, frustrated. How would he get through the next few days? Looking for answers, or distraction, he picked up the phone and started watching videos. One video caught Daniel’s eye. A remarkable individual, talking about something religious or spiritual. He couldn’t make it out, but he was interested and found something impressive, maybe admirable, about the person.
So, he continued watching and suddenly he realized his entire algorithm was now pushing videos on religion, motivational speakers, religious influencers, don’t ignore this video this might be from God videos. Overwhelmed, he decided to switch from one app to the other. Now, opening the next app Daniel was able to see some of the regular content he consumes on a daily–gym workouts, fortnight game strategies and funny cat meme videos. Continuing on with his doom scrolling, he stumbles upon that one video he saw previously that intrigued him. A bit taken back to come across it again, he may be wondered can this really be God talking to me through the voice of another and proceeded to scroll the person’s profile again. The more deeper Daniel scrolled the more he felt motivated. This earned this influencer a follow.
After, a good hour spent on this influencer”s content. Daniel now in a sense of impatience rushed down to the hall, where his mom would leave her bible, grabbed it and returned back to his room. Thus, began his spurt of the moment determination to read the Word of God that usually only happens when he was forced by his parents to do church readings when its was time for their zone to organize that mass. Daniel turned to the New Testament and immediately flipped his way through to the Gospel of John. The Beloved Disciple of Jesus. The Beloved disciple of Jesus? said no one other than St. John himself–is what Daniel found out after his deep dive into some bible interpretations videos. Daniel thought flipping through the gospel of John would give him some instant method of becoming closer to Jesus, but only found himself back at square one.
Frustrated again. Daniel went to bed.
