“One video led to another” (S207)

Jesse put down the phone, frustrated. How would Jesse get through the next few days? The constant pressure to keep up, endless scrolling, and the feeling of never being enough had become exhausting. Looking for answers, or maybe just a distraction, Jesse picked up the phone and started watching videos. One video caught Jesse’s eye. A remarkable individual was speaking about faith, human dignity, and the search for meaning in a world full of noise. Jesse couldn’t quite make it out at first, but there was something authentic about the speaker. It wasn’t about gaining followers or going viral. It was about finding freedom from the addictions that silently shape our lives, whether through drugs, social media, approval, or endless consumption.

Curious, Jesse continued watching. One video led to another, then to podcasts, books, and conversations. The more Jesse listened, the more a different way of seeing the world began to emerge. The idea that God is not distant but present within creation while also transcending it deeply resonated. It suggested that healing begins when we rediscover our connection with God, with other people, with nature, and even with ourselves. Addiction was no longer just about substances or screens; it became a sign of a deeper longing for meaning, belonging, and love.

Instead of simply escaping reality, Jesse began reflecting on how spirituality could restore broken relationships and help people live more authentically. This journey sparked an interest in philosophy, theology, and the dialogue between faith and contemporary culture. Jesse realised that online influencers have the potential to do more than entertain. When they are genuine, they can become companions who inspire hope, critical thinking, and transformation. Since then, Jesse has wanted not only to learn from such voices but also to contribute to conversations that help young people discover purpose, resilience, and a deeper sense of communion in an increasingly digital world.
